
If you get the portable version of blender you can just copy the whole thing onto a external harddrive or usb stick and take it with you to work anywhere you want.

Get pie menu editor to create custom menus and macro shortcuts easily. You can customize your UI and basic settings and save a startup scene so it always comes up like this. Use modifier list add-on to make the modifier ui more like in max. There is a good chance you can change it or there is an add on. Start with these basics to make it bearable, then just start modelling and note down everything that annoys you. Learn how the keymap works, it's confusing in the beginning but great. I set my QWER shortcuts as in max and use the pivot instead of the g/s stuff, you can change the camera controls to max, and basically every shortcut. Some tips that worked for me (and also some colleagues): if something annoys you, change it. I switched from max to blender and it was hard.
